Abstract

Dry eye is a multifactorial disease of the ocular surface characterized by a loss of homeostasis of the tear film, secondary to its instability and hyperosmolarity, which is accompanied by ocular symptoms, inflammation and damage of the ocular surface with neurosensory abnormalities. We present a series of cases of patients under joint management with ophthalmology and dermatology, diagnosed with evaporative dry eye associated with ocular rosacea or meibomian gland dysfunction, treated with intense pulsed light on the eyelids. Improvement in quality of life was observed in relation to vision and ocular lubrication, explained by an increase in tear film breakup time. However, more research is required to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of IPL in the management of evaporative dry eye.
