Background: Necrotizing fasciitis is a serious soft tissue infection that is very rare in the neonatal population. The symptoms are usually very nonspecific and in many cases it is not possible to identify a specific factor associated with the onset of the condition. It usually has a high mortality rate even with a timely and adequate diagnosis.
Case report: In this review article, we discuss the case of a neonatal patient, from a special indigenous population, born in a rancheria, who consulted due to the appearance of skin lesions on the right upper limb such as pustules, ulcers, which are accompanied by feverish spikes and multiple liquid depositions. Taking into account the risk factors, the patient's clinical symptoms and imaging findings, the patient was diagnosed as late neonatal sepsis secondary to necrotizing fasciitis.
Conclusions: Identifying risk factors, taking a good clinical history, making a timely diagnosis in conjunction with diagnostic images, and initiating timely treatment with antibiotic therapy and surgical resection will allow us to optimize and better address this affected population.
