Abstract

Blistering lesions in newborns are a diagnostic challenge due to their varied etiology and clinical similarities. These conditions include infectious, genetic, metabolic, immunological, and miscellaneous causes, with infections being the most common. This review discusses the main infectious causes: herpes simplex virus (HSV), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), bullous impetigo, staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS), and congenital syphilis. Timely diagnosis, along with an interdisciplinary approach, is essential to reduce morbidity and mortality and to prevent severe complications in this vulnerable population.
