Abstract

Nodular hidradenoma is a rare, benign adnexal tumor arising from the intraepidermal and dermal portions of the cutaneous sweat ducts. It is located in the dermis and rarely involves the epidermis. Although traditionally considered to be of eccrine origin, some authors have reported apocrine differentiation. It most commonly occurs in middle-aged adults, with a higher prevalence in women than in men. The tumor is primarily found on the head, scalp, and neck, followed by the trunk and extremities, but it can develop in any region of the body. Clinically, it presents as a solitary, asymptomatic, reddish, purplish, or brown nodule covered by thin, atrophic skin; it may be pedunculated or cystic. We present the case of an older adult with an exophytic, ulcerated tumor located on the thorax, which was ultimately diagnosed by histopathology as a nodular hidradenoma.
