Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease with multiorgan involvement. The skin is one of the most frequently affected organs. Alopecia is the main clinical manifestation in hair and scalp, and it is classified into three types: specific, nonspecific and indeterminate. Early recognition of these patterns and timely initiation of treatment can improve medical prognosis. This review presents a description of the clinical, dermoscopic manifestations, histopathological and treatment of the different alopecia patterns in patients with SLE.

Key words: Systemic lupus erythematosus, cutaneous lupus erythematosus, alopecia, dermoscopy, trichoscopy
