Abstract

Paraneoplastic autoimmune multiorganic syndrome is characterized by painful mucosal erosions, a polymorphous cutaneous rash and an occult or known malignancy. When associated to thymoma, it can also present with other autoimmune pathologies such as pemphigus, myasthenia gravis and aplastic anemia, as well as other alterations in the cellular immunity, leading to an increased frequency of opportunistic infections.
We report a patient with paraneoplastic autoimmune multiorganic syndrome associated with a type A thymoma with persistent mucositis despite thymectomy, who also had a pure red cell aplasia, mucocutaneous herpes virus infection and cytomegalovirus infection.
